A learning community where each is free to be and grow towards the realisation of their highest human potential

- The Heritage Sankalpa (Our vision)

(WHO WE ARE)

Rooted in identity.
Connected to the world

Heritage International Xperiential School (HIXS) has built its reputation on innovation, progressive development and experiential learning through a unique network of connected schools across India. HIXS Pune, the latest addition to the prestigious Heritage Xperiential schools, builds upon this legacy.

Staying true to the core ethos of Heritage, HIXS Pune provides student-centric, authentic learning that humanises and empowers the next generation to take responsibility for a world that needs healing and mending. It offers an education that is evolving constantly in response to change.

A vibrant, holistic and innovative approach inspires students to achieve academic excellence while celebrating their individuality. As our family of schools grows, we are implementing meaningful links between our schools, drawing upon local and global narratives for a truly rich educational journey.

We are an Indian international school, and we cherish our Indian heritage while embracing our students' identities as global citizens. In its founding year, Heritage International Xperiential School Pune will offer transformative education for children from Nursery to Grade 5. Over the years it will grow organically to offer schooling up to Grade 12 in its successive years.

HIXS Pune
(OUR INSPIRATION)

To learn is to become more fully yourself

The principles on which Heritage’s transformation was based were inspired by several schools of thought: The Waldorf Schools, Montessori, J. Krishnamurti, Sri Aurobindo, and Kurt Hahn, who propounded expeditionary learning and founded Atlantic College in Wales. The genesis of the IB programme was based on Kurt Hahn’s work in outbound learning and his belief that education is about deep, immersive learning with a real purpose that enables learners to confront who they really are, to solve real-life problems.

At the core of our educational philosophy are the Dharmic Principles of Authenticity, Freedom, Respect, Attentiveness, Excellence, and Inclusion. These values guide our commitment to fostering an environment where students are not only encouraged to explore their interests and capabilities but also empowered to grow as compassionate, responsible, inspired, and reflective individuals.

Our Sankalpa & the
Dharmic Principles

(OUR VISION)
The Heritage Sankalpa
Sankalpa is a Sanskrit term in yogic philosophy that refers to a heartfelt desire, a solemn vow, an intention, or a resolve to do something.
At HIXS, our Sankalpa is to establish a learning community where each is free to be and grow towards the realisation of their highest human potential through harmonious integration of spirit, heart, mind, and body.
(OUR VALUES)

OUR VALUES Dharmic Principles

Authenticity +
The school will encourage and enable, in thought, word, and deed, authenticity of being and transparency, and by implication discourage all acts of hypocrisy, pretension and double standards.
Freedom +
The HIXS community will provide the space to be, learn and grow to all its members. It will strive to nurture the freedom of choice in learning and doing, without in any way compromising the rigour and discipline of learning.
Attentiveness +
We will commit to practice and foster a state of attentiveness to all our thoughts and actions. Attentiveness involves giving ourselves completely to the present moment and silencing our insecurities, fears and unwanted thoughts. Attentiveness is the first step towards selfless love and compassion.
Respect +
The Heritage community will always respect what one is and can become. We will endeavor to instill respect for the work we do, the people we engage with, the things we use, and the environment we live in. Above all, we will foster and strengthen a sense of respect for oneself.
Excellence +
We will do the utmost to nurture a culture and habit of excellence and academic achievement, high standards of character, behaviour and action. We will equally discourage mediocrity, carelessness and negligence in thought, word and action.
Inclusion +
The Heritage community will encourage the principle of inclusion which will ensure fair opportunity and equal attention to all those who come to HIXS, without any discrimination whatsoever.

Philosophy

An intelligence is the ability to solve problems, or to create products, that are valued within one or more cultural settings

- Howard Gardner

As educators, we are intentional about giving our students opportunities to apply their learning in novel situations. HIXS’s experiential learning approach is aimed at ensuring that learning has an authentic purpose. We firmly believe that experiential learning accelerates a child’s academic progress as ‘learning by doing’ helps to develop vital skills such as critical thinking, problem solving and effective decision-making simultaneously, and aids retention.

Students approach the natural world and human society through integrated units grounded in direct experience, with narratives that invite children to grasp concepts and apply them to daily life. We focus on purposeful work that strengthens critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Through intentional learning opportunities, students tackle complex problems that may have more than one solution. By addressing such scenarios, we develop the ability to use analytical decision-making skills to justify our choices.

With a curriculum focused on high academic expectations and personalized learning, we move learning beyond a traditional ‘one-size-fits-all’ teaching model, placing each learner at the centre of their own learning. We value curiosity, self-direction, and independence and help learners to think and behave like designers. This is why we have embedded Design Thinking into our curriculum. We have also redesigned the school day to create more time for learners to dig deep into their learning.

THE CAMPUS

Space as the third teacher

The field of neuroarchitecture is about understanding the fundamental ways that our environment shapes our brain, behaviour, and experience, and using that knowledge to design spaces that promote health and happiness

The HIXS Pune Campus is a neuroarchitecture-inspired building made up of learning labs, classrooms and community spaces carefully designed based on a deep understanding and commitment to emotional wellbeing, cognitive development and awareness of the natural world

Flexible and Culturally
Significant Learning Spaces

The school's physical design and learning facilities emphasise the significant role of space as a vital component in developing children who are joyful, healthy, resilient, and socially responsible individuals.  It caters to various learning behaviours, such as independence, collaboration, experiential learning, and quiet reflection. These environments are designed to support multiple intelligences and respect neurodiversity, enabling children to thrive both personally and academically.

A healthy sense of self-worth is an individual’s perception of their value and importance. Carefully curated pieces of architecture and furniture with elements relating to the Pune and Maharashtra customs and traditions are brought into spaces to enhance the HIXS Pune identity, rooted in the rich Indian culture and heritage, yet with a strong emphasis on the modern world.
